“Blue Ridge Weekend"
with
YEG educators
This will be our first Young Entomologists Group camping trip of the year in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Our explorations will be in the Blue Ridge Mountains where rugged and ancient volcanic metamorphic and quartzite rock lends to a landscape with fast-flowing mountain streams and a deciduous mountain forest ecosystem, a distinct departure from our past Coastal Plains explorations at Merkle Wildlife Refuge, or in the Piedmont region at Little Bennett Regional Park! We will look for the aquatic larval stages of stonefly, mayfly, caddisfly and other arthropod species living in cool mountain streams. We'll explore the forest to discover which insects live here, and see what comes to the blacklight after dark!
SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES:
Sat., May 30:
· Stream insects study and exploration
· Forest exploration for insects, spiders and other arthropods!
· Additional evening activities tbd
· We will set up a blacklight and sheet on Saturday evening and we will see what comes to it!

· Optional camping for families
Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
